A down-and-out family is visited by a man who possesses a strange object that they hope will make all of their wishes come true. A terror classic that brings home the old adage “be careful what you wish for.”
Schools: This play is a good choice for schools.
The White family has fallen on hard times. Herbert White is out of work, and his wife, Alice, is not happy about their situation. Stanley, their good-hearted son, is keeping the household financially afloat. Herbert runs into Major Morris, an old military acquaintance, who might have a job for him. When Morris pays them a visit, the job has dried up, but he does have something else to offer them. In his pocket is a shriveled-up monkey’s paw which he acquired in India. He tells them that it will grant the owner three wishes, but that these wishes come at a high price. Alice White is willing to take the gamble, and the results are more horrifying than any of them could have imagined. The Monkey’s Paw is a classic tale of terror that brings home the old adage “be careful what you wish for.”
