Born and raised in Chicago, with a BFA from Depaul University (MFA Ohio University), Rachel Bykowski is an active part of Chicago's theatre community. Her work combines her powerful point of view while also being universal in their themes.
From her bio:
"My plays explore the many facets of womanhood and raise awareness to social issues. I find myself analyzing male/female power dynamics, male privilege, and gender roles. The question, “What does it mean to be a woman,” haunts my characters. My womanhood, anger, and playwriting are tangled together in these knots of words I call my plays."
Her play Rev reflects that characterization. A beautiful three-hander about the arrested hopes and deferred dreams of working-class women in Chicago. Rev follows a pair of sisters named Camaro and Aston struggling to keep their deceased fathers' repair shop afloat until a 25-year old ex-marine with a unique connection to the family walks in through their garage door seeking employment.
Ms. Bykowski's heartwarming, funny, and poignant new work will have a reading at 2019's Southeastern Theatre Conference in Knoxville, TN and will become a part of the Stage Rights catalog. More announcements about Rev will be made in the weeks and months ahead.
