The Public Theater has announced that Hamlet, starring Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac in the title role with direction by Sam Gold, has been added to the downtown summer season. The production had been previously tapped to play Theatre for a New Audience, but was pulled from the lineup last summer over artistic differences between the director and the theatre.

Hamlet was originally scheduled to play June 4–July 30 at TFANA’s Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn, marking Gold’s first collaboration with the theatre. Following the cancellation, the Public Theater was thought to be in discussions with Gold—whose Tony-winning Fun Home debuted at the Off-Broadway theatre—though an official announcement had yet to be made.
