We were overwhelmed by the response to our announcement of the Broadway Licensing Standing Ovation Grant, which offered an exceptional educational theatre program the chance to receive $5,000 and a feature in our 2022-2023 Educational Catalog. So overwhelmed, in fact, that we also awarded a $1,000 prize to four runners-up!
Meet our 2022 Standing Ovation Grant top prize recipients:
A student-run program with no school funding, the Mission San Jose Universal Performers nevertheless staged a production of The Crucible, lit with flashlights and garden lamps and rehearsed late into the night on Zoom, and took home seven awards at the Lenaea Theatre Festival in February.
MSJ Universal Performers was selected due to their tenacity, flexibility, and drive to make theatre happen despite the odds. We tip our hat to them for their commitment to making everyone a theatre person!
