Michael Arden, Carmen Cusack, Merrily We Roll Along Earn L.A. Ovation Award Nominations

The acclaimed Center Theatre Group revival of August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and the musical revue Scorsese – American Crime Requiem are also among the nominees.

The Center Theatre Group revival of August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, as well as For the Record: Scorsese – American Crime Requiem at the Wallis, and the Geffen Playhouse production of The Legend of Georgia McBride are among the most nominated productions for the 28th annual L.A. Stage Alliance Awards, which were announced November 2.

The ceremony will take place January 29, 2018, at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. The L.A. Stage Alliance administers the Ovation Awards.

Center Theatre Group led with a total of 31 nominations. The theatre’s acclaimed revival of Wilson’s 1984 play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom received seven nominations, including Direction of a Play (Phylicia Rashad), Lead Actor in a Play (Jason Dirden), and Best Production of a Play. The world premiere of Rajiv Joseph’s The Archduke, received five nominations including Original Play.
