Christine Evans is a kindergarten assistant at Edgely Prep, an elite Manhattan private school with an acceptance rate that puts Harvard’s to shame. On the day applications are due, Edgely’s Head of Admissions is ousted in a scandal, and Christine is unexpectedly thrust into the job. With phones ringing off the hook, Christine must balance beleaguered applicants, venal administrators, and an army of parents who will stop at nothing to get their kids in. Winner of the 2015 Broadway World Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, Application Pending explores the cutthroat world of kindergarten admissions and what it ultimately means to be a good parent.
A One-Man Version and a Competition Version have also been created for schools and other institutions where there is a need for a larger cast. The play can be performed with anywhere from 2 to 43 actors.
Remarkable! Must we trot out the phrase ‘tour de force’? Yes, we must.
–The New York Times
A timely and incisive comedy. Comic perfection.
Casting Note: Application Pending was originally written to be performed by one female actor playing all the roles. The authors have also created a version of the script for a male actor, as well as a school version (available upon request). At schools and other institutions where there is a desire to engage larger casts, the play can be performed with anywhere from 2 to 43 actors.
